Cross-country skiing For those of you who have experience in cross-country skiing not a lot of explanation is needed. However, for those of you who will be coming for the first time we would like to explain what cross-country skiing is. Basically it is going for long walks but then with skis on. There are no prepared tracks but you will receive all the training from our staff to be able to ski up a mountain and down again. You can expect tours through unspoiled nature, a good exercise and a lot of fun.
If you are new to cross-country skiing you will be taken on a ‘crash course’ (more course than crashing!) on the first day which should prepare you sufficiently for the following days. When you leave you will know what a ‘haring bone’ is and when (and when not!) to use ‘Blue Extra Ski Wax’. Also, we have a ski- and boots rental service for all sizes. Before your arrival please advise our staff about your height and shoe size for us to sort you out.
Everyday you will be taken on tours (varying from three to seven hours) passing through the attractive scenery of the area. The tours can be adapted to any desired level as the geography varies from smooth hills to serious mountains. Please take a look at our photo section to have a better idea what to expect. Ice Fishing Lake Mosvatn is one of the largest in Telemark with beautiful views of Gausta and the slopes of Hardangarvidda. It is also perfect for ice fishing – a sport which is wide practiced in the region. At Mosstrond we have the facilities and gear for ice fishing and you will be provided with a small course if you are in need of it. Your catch of the day can be consumed at night – a pure treat as the fresh water fish of Movatn are very tasty.
Dog-sledging Dog-sledging can be arranged. An experienced dog-sledge handler with 38 dogs operates close-by. It is possible to be transported to the farm or you can ski there yourself. We highly recommend this Nordic experience for all ages. For more information click here.
Dod-sledging is one of the many activities which can be arranged during your stay Apre-ski We will not promise Alp style ‘apre-ski’ as the nearest night club is approximately five hours skiing away. However, the day does not end after donning the skis. Every night a delicious dinner is served as you will have the chance to consume typical Norwegian cuisine: fresh water fish, reindeer meet and – if you ask nicely – elk balls!
There is nothing better than sitting in the lounge after a long days skiing reading a book and sipping away at a coffee or a whisky. For the children we have a collection of games and books, as well as a large variety of toys for in the snow, such as toboggans, sleighs, and tools to construct snow-holes.
